I am 34 years old. I have a daughter. I am a student. I am a pretty smart cookie. I play Fantasy Sports. Yeah, I take it further than just Fantasy Football. I am currently in a Fantasy Golf League. (I'm winning by the way) That being said, I want to talk about Fantasy Football for now.
I happen to live with a lovely young lady that lives with my addictions, and yes, Fantasy Football is an addiction. Right now..as I sit at this computer, I can look outside and see that my neighbor is having his draft THIS VERY MINUTE. Of course, my draft was earlier today at 11am. I haven't gotten up that early on a Saturday since junior high, but I was bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Anyway, back to my future bride. She has no problem with me playing, but I know that she thinks it's stupid. The facts are that for me, like other fantasy geeks, I am a former athlete, very competitive, loves the box scores, and generally love football season as most children love Santa Claus.
I want to give some perspective to some of you non-believers. Fantasy Football keeps me from betting on the games. When FOX puts the horrid Falcons against the even more horrid Chiefs, I suddenly have a very keen interest because Roddy White (Falcons) is on my Fantasy Football team. Instead of doing yard work or reading chapter 2 in my Greek book, I am enthralled to see that White has scored a touchdown and has 70 recieving yards. "Holy crap, that's 13 fantasy points!!!!" Who speaks Greek anyway. I'll read it before class.......riiiiiight.
I think idle hands are evil hands. I live for something to distract me. I have the attention span of a squirrel thats had a Mocha Latte. It's that bad. I watch "Big Brother" and "Brooke knows Best." That cannot be normal for someone with a brain. ***Right now, I'd like to take a moment and say that "I love you, Bonnie, and that I am sorry for what I just said." Now, back to the pull of Fantasy Football. I love the stats that go into it. I like being able to watch the games on Sunday with interest. I like not having to spend my money on an offshore betting site. I like making trades with other "owners." The trash talking is always interesting, usually because I'm running my mouth. Oh, and I'm freakin good at it. In 6 years of playing, I've missed the playoffs once. That means that the other 5 years, I was one of the top 4 teams, out of 12. This is not to say the money that I have won during these seasons. Last tally, I have made $830.
So, to review, I'm engaged in something I like, that both saves me money, and makes me some as well, and I like playing like Jerry Jones or George Steinbrenner. Hey, make believe is fun. I guess that since Fantasy Football is a multi-BILLION dollar industry and everyone from ESPN to USA Today has fantasy leagues, there are worse things a guy could do. Go Reggie Bush, GO!!!!!!!!!
